About the Integrated Data Service : How to access

The Integrated Data Service (IDS) is operating in a beta phase and is not yet publicly available.

You will be able to apply for access to data or to become a contributor to the IDS through the following steps.

Apply for project accreditation

Accredited researchers can access data for specific purposes. If you would like to apply to access data in the IDS, email IDS.customer.support@ons.gov.uk (opens in a new tab)

While the IDS is operating in its beta phase, you will then be contacted by our Engagement team who will capture requirements around:

  • outputs
  • data
  • data refreshes
  • linkage

If the capabilities of the platform align with your project, you may be asked to submit an accreditation application as part of the onboarding process.

Projects are accredited using Section C of the Research Code of Practice and Accreditation Criteria (opens in a new tab) , approved by the UK Parliament in July 2018.

As part of your application, you may be asked about:

  • the purpose, aims and duration of the project
  • the personal data involved and how it will be used
  • methods and software used
  • who will be involved, including team members and sponsor
  • how the project will impact and benefit the public

All members of the project team must also apply for individual accreditation.

We will review your application and inform you of the outcome of your accreditation. The timeline for this process may vary depending on the nature of your project.

IDS brings together a range of datasets to enable easier collaboration on research projects across government.
