News : Virgin Media O2 Business mobility data now available on the Integrated Data Service
Anonymised and aggregated mobility data from Virgin Media O2 Business’s O2 Motion service are now available for accredited researchers to access in the Integrated Data Service (IDS).
They will be used to support analysis to:
- provide insights that reveal population dynamics, travel patterns, and other movement trends
- aid informed decision-making processes on both national and local scales
The partnership between Virgin Media O2 Business and the IDS removes the need for additional data agreements and provides a more cost-effective solution for government users.
This collaboration marks a significant milestone in using data to tackle complex societal challenges. With weekly movement data policymakers, researchers and analysts can use IDS to make informed decisions, contributing to a smarter, more connected future for the UK.
According to Geoff Wappett, Head of AI and Data Insights at Virgin Media O2 Business:
"Generated from billions of daily network events, our mobile data will provide governmental organisations and officials with reliable information to inform their work addressing major societal challenges at pace. Beyond numbers, the IDS platform, and our wider work with the ONS will ensure that quality insights are easily accessible to support data-driven decision making.”
Currently in public beta, the IDS platform and its data releases are set to expand rapidly in the coming months, with plans for additional capabilities, projects, and users to be onboarded. The O2 Motion data is already available on the platform, with weekly updates ensuring real-time analysis capabilities.
