Standard Industrial Classification and Occupational lookup

Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) and Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) lookup covering period 1997 to 2020, matched to Annual Survey Hours and Earnings (ASHE).

Lookups for different editions and versions of the Standard Industry Classification (SIC) and Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) to enable analysts to work with changes to categorisations over the time-period of the analysis.

The lookups are specific to the treasury analytical project to work with the Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings (ASHE) data. Weightings also support usage with the aggregated Annual Population and Business Register and Employment statistical summaries from the NOMIS platform.

The table is used to obtain employee count and turnover converted from SIC2003 to SIC2007 codes. This is not a 1:1 match and are proportionally split which is why there are two file lists. Each lookup can be done using between two and five digits, dependent on how detailed a breakdown is required.

The SOC data is grouped by major and minor by gender with Census 2001 and Labour Force Survey values.

All data hosted on the Integrated Data Service (IDS) are de-identified.
