Keeping data secure : Overview

The Integrated Data Service (IDS) provides access to high-quality data, which is critical to informing policy decisions and improving public services. Ensuring the data within the IDS, and therefore the privacy of research participants and their sensitive information, are safe and secure, is our highest priority.

The IDS is currently operating in a beta phase, with a selection of data available to users in a Trusted Research Environment (TRE).

Users cannot bring their own data or code into the platform during this phase.

Security standards

To protect users, systems and data, the Integrated Data Service (IDS) follows government security standards and best practice. These standards meet the National Cyber Security Centre’s principles for securing cloud technology. Find out more about these principles on the NCSC website (opens in a new tab)

IDS analysts follow strict data policies around cleaning, linkage, validation and control, ensuring a legal and ethical governance of data.
